The Region

The Region in Detail

Your comprehensive travel guide for camping Nordportugal.

Coastal Magic or Mountain Worlds? 🤔

Northern Portugal can be roughly divided into two zones: the green coast with its picturesque fishing villages and the mountainous Trás-os-Montes region with its untouched nature parks. Those who love the sea will find numerous campsites with direct beach access along the coast. Those who prefer it quieter can retreat to the mountains and enjoy the silence of nature.

With or without a Motorhome? 🚐

The roads in Northern Portugal are generally well-developed, but in the mountain regions, they can get narrow and winding. Think carefully about whether you really want to take your motorhome everywhere. For trips to the national parks, it is recommended to leave the motorhome at the campsite and switch to public transport or a rental car. Note: Tolls apply on Portuguese motorways!

The Forgotten Village of Sistelo 🤫

Off the beaten track, hidden in the mountains of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, lies the village of Sistelo, also known as the "Portuguese Tibet". The terraced fields, traditional stone houses, and breathtaking landscape make Sistelo an unforgettable experience. An absolute must for everyone looking for authentic Portugal.
