The Region

The Region in Detail

Your comprehensive travel guide for camping Skeleton Coast.

The Northern Skeleton Coast: Untamed Wilderness

🧭 The north is the heart of the Skeleton Coast. Here, the wrecks are even more numerous, the dunes higher, and the solitude more intense. Accessible only with a special permit, this region offers an unforgettable off-road adventure. Plan enough time to soak up the unique atmosphere.

Mobility: Your Faithful Companion

A reliable 4x4 vehicle is a must. Reduce tire pressure for driving in the sand and carry plenty of fuel. Distances are enormous and gas stations are rare. Inform yourself in advance about the necessary permits for the national parks and observe the strict rules for protecting sensitive ecosystems. Better to leave your motorhome behind and rent a 4x4.

Psst... the Hoarusib River

🤫 Away from the coast, in the hinterland of the Skeleton Coast, the Hoarusib River winds through the desert. Here, where elephants and giraffes search for water, a completely different side of Namibia reveals itself. An unforgettable experience that combines the extremes of the region in a fascinating way.
