Your Journey to Erfurt

Getting to Erfurt to start your campervan adventure is straightforward, especially from the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa. Your primary gateway will likely be a major international airport, followed by a short onward journey.
By Air:
The most convenient major international airport is Frankfurt Airport (FRA). It is one of Europe's largest hubs with numerous direct flights from major cities across North America (e.g., New York, Toronto, Los Angeles), the UK (e.g., London, Manchester), Ireland (Dublin), and connecting flights from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa via hubs like Dubai, Doha, or Singapore.
Another excellent option is Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ), which is even closer to Erfurt and serves many European destinations directly.
Onward Travel from the Airport:
From Frankfurt Airport (FRA): The connection is exceptionally easy. The airport has its own long-distance train station ('Fernbahnhof'). From there, high-speed ICE trains run directly to Erfurt's main station ('Hauptbahnhof') in approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. This is the most recommended and comfortable option.
From Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ): The journey is even quicker. A direct train connection will get you from the airport to Erfurt Hauptbahnhof in about 40 minutes.
Once you arrive at Erfurt Hauptbahnhof, you can take a local taxi or public transport to your campervan pick-up location. Your rental partner will provide the exact address and instructions before your arrival. Planning your travel to the starting point of your campervan hire in Erfurt is the first easy step of your great German road trip.
