About this Tour

Oman is one of the world's best-kept secret travel destinations – and a dream for campervan adventurers. The coastal road from the capital Muscat to tropical Salalah in the south follows the ancient incense route and offers a landscape that is constantly changing: from barren mountain flanks and endless deserts to lush monsoon oases. Your Journey in Detail

🏛️Maskat – Tor zu Arabien

Muscat is one of the cleanest, safest, and most elegant capitals in the world – a place where tradition and modernity blend harmoniously. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the largest in the world, is an architectural masterpiece (non-Muslim visitors welcome in the morning!). The Royal Opera House offers world-class performances in spectacular surroundings. The Mutrah Souq, a traditional market, is a labyrinth of alleys where incense, spices, silver jewelry, and textiles are offered – haggling is tradition! The Corniche of Mutrah offers a relaxed stroll along the port. Omani food is a mixture of Arabic, Indian, and East African influences: Shuwa (slow-cooked lamb), Machboos (rice with meat), and Halwa (sweet confection with cardamom) are highlights. Coffee with dates is the traditional gesture of hospitality. Camping options around Muscat are limited, but the beaches slightly outside (Yiti, Bandar Jissah) offer informal overnight options.

🐢Wadis & Turtles

South of Muscat, the dream coast begins: beaches that are regularly voted among the most beautiful in the world but are almost deserted. Fins Beach is legendary – white sand, turquoise water, no infrastructure. Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi are narrow gorges where emerald green water flows between rock walls – swimming, hiking, and climbing in a paradisiacal environment. The coastal town of Sur was once the center of Omani maritime trade; the traditional dhow shipyards are still active. Ras al-Jinz, the easternmost tip of the Arabian Peninsula, is famous for its sea turtles: Green turtles and hawksbill turtles return to the beaches at night to nest – a guided visit is unforgettable (booking required!). The way south leads through increasingly barren landscapes, past isolated Bedouin settlements, and through regions that feel cut off from the rest of the world. Gas stations and small shops are available at regular intervals, but taking supplies with you is advisable. Wild camping is allowed almost everywhere and is culturally accepted – the freedom is exhilarating.

🌴Salalah – Tropisches Oman

Salalah, the capital of the Dhofar region in the south, is a shock after the desert drive: lush green, tropical, and shrouded in mist during the Khareef monsoon (June-September). The region is the home of frankincense, which has made Oman famous since antiquity – UNESCO sites such as Al Balid and Sumhuram document the trade history. The beaches are spectacular: Mughsail Beach with its blowholes where water sprays through rocks, and endless bays for camping. The wadis of the region (Wadi Darbat with waterfall, Ain Athum) are oases of biodiversity: camels, francolins, and tropical vegetation. Salalah city is relaxed and authentic – no skyscrapers, no tourist crowds. The return trip to Muscat via the desert route offers an alternative experience: endless 'Empty Quarter' landscapes, stargazing without light pollution, and the possibility of visiting Bedouin camps. Practical: Oman is one of the safest countries in the world. The roads are excellent. The climate is ideal October-April (25-35°C), in summer often over 45°C. Alcohol is strictly regulated (only in hotels).
