Route Overview
About this Tour
Morocco's Atlantic coast is the relaxed alternative to desert adventure. Wide beaches, fresh fish, surf culture, and a pleasant breeze make this route the perfect camper trip. From the royal city of Rabat, you drive via legendary Casablanca (less romantic than in the movie but worth seeing) to charming Essaouira, which enchants with its Portuguese flair and lively art scene. The final in Agadir offers pure beach life and is the starting point for excursions to the Anti-Atlas Mountains.
Your Journey in Detail
🏖️Rabat & Casablanca
Rabat, the often overlooked capital, is quieter and more elegant than Marrakech. The Kasbah of the Udayas on the Atlantic is a perfect sunset spot. Casablanca is modern, busy, and dominated by the massive Hassan II Mosque – one of the largest in the world and the only one in Morocco that non-Muslims are allowed to enter.
🏄Essaouira Wind & Wellen
Essaouira is the epitome of a relaxed coastal atmosphere. The blue and white medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is manageable and pleasant. The winds make it a kitesurfer's paradise, but it's often too stormy for swimming. Instead, there's fresh fish in the harbor, artist studios, and street musicians on every corner.
🐟Agadir & South
Agadir was rebuilt modernly after the 1960 earthquake – historically less interesting but with the best beach weather in Morocco. From here you explore the hinterland: the Lower Atlas Mountains, traditional Berber villages, and the argan cooperatives where Morocco's liquid gold is produced.
💡Practical Tips
- ✓Essaouira is windy – have a jacket with you, even in summer!
- ✓Fish at the harbor is fresh and cheap – point to what you want and have it grilled in front of you.
- ✓Wild camping on the coast is possible in many places – pay attention to cleanliness and respect.
