About this Tour
Durmitor National Park is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and Montenegro's outdoor paradise. Peaks over 2,500m high, 18 glacier lakes, the spectacular Tara Gorge (Europe's deepest!), and the iconic Đurđevića Tara Bridge await you. From the coast, the drive leads steeply uphill – and suddenly you are in an alpine world that feels like the Alps without the masses. Hiking, rafting, canyoning – or simply enjoying the silence.
Your Journey in Detail
🏔️Aufstieg & Kontrast
The drive from Kotor to Durmitor is a contrast experience: Mediterranean to Alps in three hours. The road winds through gorges, over passes, and through mountain villages that look as if nothing has changed for centuries.
🌊Durmitor Erleben
Žabljak is the base camp – a sleepy mountain village with everything necessary. Crno Jezero (Black Lake) is an easy walk and ideal for sunrise photographers. For the ambitious: the ascent of Bobotov Kuk (2,523m) offers panoramas over the entire Balkans.
🥾Tara-Schlucht & Rafting
The Tara Gorge is the deepest in Europe at 1,300m. The famous bridge (Đurđevića Tara) offers bungee jumping for the brave. Less adrenaline-intensive: a rafting tour through the gorge, which rushes through emerald green water. Unforgettable!
💡Practical Tips
- ✓In winter (Nov-Apr) many roads in the park are closed – winter equipment is mandatory!
- ✓Book rafting tours from Žabljak – day tours from approx. 60€.
- ✓Campsites in the park are simple, but the backdrop is priceless.
