Route Overview
About this Tour
Finnish Lapland is one of Europe's last wilderness areas – a land where the sun never sets in summer and never rises in winter, where reindeer roam freely and the Northern Lights dance across the sky. For campervan travelers, this is the ultimate adventure.
Your Journey in Detail
🎅Rovaniemi – Gateway to the Arctic
Rovaniemi lies exactly on the Arctic Circle and is the official hometown of Santa Claus. The Santa Claus Village is kitschy but fun – you can cross the Arctic Circle, mail postcards from Santa's Post Office, and meet the man himself year-round.
🦌Arctic Wilderness
Beyond Rovaniemi begins true wilderness. The fells (tunturi) – treeless rounded mountains – stretch to the horizon. Reindeer are everywhere and have priority on roads. The Urho Kekkonen National Park is Finland's second-largest wilderness area.
🌌Northern Lights
The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are Lapland's main attraction from September to March. The dancing green, purple, and pink lights across the night sky are simply magical – an experience that stays with you forever.
💡Practical Tips
- ✓Winter in Lapland requires a proper 4-season campervan with heating!
- ✓Northern Lights season is September to March – best chance in December/January.
- ✓Fuel up whenever possible – distances are vast and gas stations rare in the Arctic.
