About this tour

About this Tour

The Caribbean coast is the other Costa Rica – clocks tick slower here, calypso music drifts through the air, and food is influenced by Afro-Caribbean traditions. The route leads from the Tortuguero region (accessible only by boat, campers park in Limón) via the surf beaches of Puerto Viejo to the relaxed Cahuita National Park with its coral reef. Less touristy than the Pacific side, but more authentic and untouched.

Stages

Your Journey in Detail

🐢Tortuguero

Costa Rica's 'Little Amazon' is only accessible by boat – crocodiles, toucans, and in season (July-October) nesting sea turtles. The camper waits in Limón while you take the boat transfer to the national park.

🎶Puerto Viejo

Here Caribbean meets Costa Rica: Rastafari culture, reggae bars, fresh jerk chicken, and the best surf spot variety in the country – from beginner waves to the infamous Salsa Brava. Playa Cocles and Playa Chiquita are paradise beaches.

🦥Cahuita National Park

Cahuita offers hiking trails right by the sea and Costa Rica's only living coral reef – perfect for snorkeling. The fishing village itself is tiny, friendly, and the perfect place for slow travel. Camping options right on the beach.
