About this Tour

The Silk Road is one of humanity's greatest adventure routes. This route follows the ancient trade path from the old capital Xi'an, home of the Terracotta Army, through the Hexi Corridor to the legendary oasis city of Dunhuang with its Mogao Caves. You'll cross the Gobi Desert, pass the westernmost point of the Great Wall at Jiayuguan, and end in the vibrant Central Asian-influenced city of Urumqi. Campervan infrastructure is improving rapidly in China, with dedicated RV parks appearing along major routes. The landscapes are epic – from lush farmland to stark desert to snow-capped mountains.

Your Journey in Detail

🐪Xi'an & the Terracotta Army

Xi'an was the starting point of the Silk Road for over a thousand years. The Terracotta Army is staggering in scale – over 8,000 life-size warriors guarding Emperor Qin's tomb. The Muslim Quarter offers incredible street food, and the ancient city walls are perfect for a sunset cycle. Pick up your campervan here and stock up – the road ahead is long.

🏜️Hexi Corridor & Dunhuang

The Hexi Corridor is a narrow passage between mountains and desert, used by traders for millennia. Jiayuguan Fort marks the western end of the Great Wall – beyond here was 'barbarian territory.' Dunhuang is the highlight: the Mogao Caves contain 1,000 years of Buddhist art, and the Singing Sand Dunes glow golden at sunset. Camp near the dunes for an unforgettable night.

🕌Turpan & Urumqi

Turpan lies in one of the world's lowest depressions – unbearably hot in summer but fascinating year-round. The ancient city of Gaochang lies in ruins, and the Flaming Mountains glow red. Urumqi feels like a different country – Central Asian bazaars, lamb kebabs, and the stunning Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) in the nearby mountains provide a fitting finale.
