Route Overview
About this Tour
The Trans-Canada Highway is one of the longest highways in the world, crossing the second-largest country on Earth from coast to coast. This epic route leads through the rainforests of British Columbia, over the majestic Rocky Mountains, across the endless prairies, past the Great Lakes, and through French-speaking Quebec. It's the ultimate RV expedition – a journey that takes weeks and stays in memory for a lifetime.
Your Journey in Detail
🏔️Vancouver & the Rocky Mountains
Vancouver is one of the most beautiful starting points imaginable – a metropolis between sea and mountains where you can ski in the morning and lie on the beach in the afternoon. Stanley Park, the Aquarium, Granville Island, and the opportunity to watch orcas off the coast make leaving difficult. But the Rocky Mountains call! The drive through the Fraser Canyon is spectacular – the highway winds along steep canyons, through tunnels, and over bridges. Hell's Gate, where the Fraser River rushes through a narrow canyon, is an obligatory stop. Kamloops and Revelstoke are waypoints before the Rogers Pass crosses the Selkirk Mountains. Then they appear: the Canadian Rockies. Banff National Park is Canada's oldest national park and one of the world's most beautiful. The turquoise Lake Louise, colored by glacial flour, is surreal. Moraine Lake, Peyto Lake, and Bow Lake line up one after another.
🌾The Prairies – Canada's Heartland
After the mountains comes the surprise: the seemingly endless prairie. Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba are Canada's heart – vast wheat fields, ranches, and a sky so wide it seems almost surreal. Calgary, the 'Cowboy City', is worth a stop, especially during the Calgary Stampede in July, the world's largest rodeo. The dinosaur heritage at Drumheller with its 'Badlands' and the Royal Tyrrell Museum is fascinating. Regina in Saskatchewan surprises with the RCMP Heritage Centre – the history of the famous 'Mounties'. Winnipeg in Manitoba lies exactly in the middle of Canada and offers a surprisingly vibrant cultural life.
🍁Ontario & French Canada
Ontario brings the Great Lakes – the Lake Superior Highway (17) along the largest freshwater lake in the world is spectacular: rocky coasts, secluded bays, and wilderness reminiscent of Scandinavia. Toronto is Canada's metropolis: the CN Tower, the diverse neighborhoods (Kensington Market, Chinatown, Distillery District), and the cultural energy of a world city. From here, it's a short detour to Niagara Falls – 57 meters of roaring water power, best experienced from the Canadian side with the 'Maid of the Mist' boat ride. Then Quebec begins – and suddenly everything is French. Montreal vibrates with life: old Montreal with cobblestones, the lively Plateau scene, bagels from wood-fired ovens, and poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds) on every corner.
