Whether you prefer winding switchbacks, panoramic viewpoints, or direct views of the Pasterze glacier: this route is an absolute must for any campervan traveler in Austria! The highlights include the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe viewing platform with its spectacular glacier views, the alpine marmots that you can observe at almost every stop, and the unique flora of the high alpine zone.
Your Journey in Detail

Your adventure begins in Zell am See, a charming spa town on the lake of the same name. Here you can stock up on provisions and fill your freshwater tank. Tip: The lakeside promenade is perfect for an evening stroll! The town offers all amenities you could need, including a well-equipped campervan service station.
⛰️Across the High Alpine Road
The next morning, head for the Großglockner High Alpine Road! The toll for campervans (depending on length €40-50) is definitely worth it. After the Hochmais station, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. At the Fuscher Törl you'll have your first impressive panorama. Take your time at the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe and enjoy the view of the Pasterze glacier – Austria's largest glacier. Marmots often sit right by the roadside here!
