Amalfi Coast – Why Your Camper Heart Beats Faster Here

Camping Im ZitronenhainSonnenuntergang An Der Kueste

Looking for the perfect campsite in Amalfi Coast? With Campcruisers you can easily find and book your ideal pitch. Discover lemons, meets, azure, tips and more when you camp in Amalfi Coast.

Imagine opening the sliding door of your van in the morning and being greeted by the warm, salty breeze of the Tyrrhenian Sea, mixed with the heavy scent of ripe lemon blossoms. Camping on the Amalfi Coast is not a classic camping holiday; it is a test of courage and a declaration of love all at once. While hotel guests sweat in overcrowded shuttle buses, you always have your home with you. The landscape is dramatic: steep limestone cliffs plunge hundreds of meters into a sea so blue it almost looks artificial. This verticality is what makes the region so special for campers – you often stay at terraced sites high above the cliffs, with a view that no five-star resort can beat.

The best time for your road trip is May, June, or late September. In high summer (July/August), it not only gets extremely hot, but the narrow roads of the SS163 become so congested that driving a motorhome becomes a test of patience. In addition, strict driving bans for larger vehicles based on license plate endings often apply during the peak season. In spring, however, the coast blooms in all colors and the temperatures are perfect for exploring the hiking trails without needing the camper's heater to run at full blast at night. Be honest with yourself, though: your driving skills will be put to the test here. The roads are narrow, the curves are blind, and the local bus drivers show no mercy.

Unforgettable Experiences & Must-Sees

Your first stop should be the Sentiero degli Dei, the Path of the Gods. It is best to park your camper in Agerola (Bomerano district) in the hikers' parking lot there. From there, you walk high above the sea all the way to Positano. The view of the coastline is dizzyingly beautiful. Another highlight is Ravello. This place is not by the water but perches like an eagle's nest above the coast. The gardens of Villa Cimbrone offer you what is probably the most famous view in the world. For this excursion, it's better to leave the van at a campsite in Maiori and take the public bus, as parking spaces for motorhomes in Ravello are virtually non-existent.

For a cool down, head to the Fiordo di Furore. It is not a real fjord, but a deep gorge with a tiny beach and an imposing bridge over it. Since it is absolutely impossible to park a motorhome here, the insider tip is to leave the camper in Amalfi or Maiori and cover the distance by SITA bus or a rented scooter. Culinarically, you cannot miss the Delizia al Limone. This lemon tart tastes best at Pasticceria Sal De Riso in Minori. It is the essence of the Amalfi Coast in one bite – sweet, sour, and incredibly fresh.
