Route Overview
About this Tour
The Peene has been dubbed the 'Amazon of the North' – and the name fits. The river is one of the last undeveloped lowland rivers in Europe. No locks. No weirs. No bank reinforcements. Just nature. What you'll see: White-tailed eagles (constantly), ospreys (often), beavers (evenings), cranes (thousands in autumn), herons, cormorants, and kingfishers. The shore is a green thicket of willows and reeds. Some spots actually resemble tropical rivers. The tour starts in Demmin or Anklam. From there, you travel at a leisurely pace – the Peene has almost no current and is smooth as glass. Staying overnight? There are a few simple moorings, otherwise: anchor and enjoy nature. Important note: The Peene is shallow! Check your draft. And: mobile reception is often ZERO. Hard Facts: No license required • NO locks • White-tailed eagle guarantee • Max. draft 80 cm! • Best time: April-September • Mobile often without reception
